The collection consists of personal photographs and other memorabilia; personal and professional correspondence arranged chronologically from 1936 to 1961; research notes and various addresses also in chronological order; printed reviews and newspaper clippings regarding publications plus articles relevant to his research; business correspondence between his wife Kate and various editors and scholars after her husband's death and with respect to his work; complete and annotated texts of The Genius of Italy in English, Italian, and German; complete annotated texts of Marco Polo's Asia in English and Italian; and Chinese poetry and a 13th century Italian holograph on the Far East, both on microfilm. Series I. Memorabilia. Includes Order of Merit medal and certificate awarded 1958 Dec. 8, and a typescript in Italian of Olschki's acceptance speech; personal photographs of Olschki with his wife, his father, friends, colleagues and Pope Pius XII; the musical score of Homenaje a Leonardo Olschki by Joaqu'in Nin-Culmell, dedicated 1955 Sept. 5; a personal guestbook signed by friends between 1951 and 1952. Series II. Personal and professional correspondence. Contains routine professional correspondence between Olschki and various publishing houses (among them Alfred A. Knopf and Pantheon Books) and colleagues: extensive correspondence from Dr. William J. Wilson at the Library of Congress during 1941 with regard to Florentine churches and to 15th century texts on Columbus' voyages analyzed by Olschki; personal correspondence with reference to his research on Latin texts to Ernst Kantorowicz, 1943-1961; correspondence regarding a loyalty oath imposed upon him at UC Berkeley in the wake of the Red Scare, 1949-1950; letters and documents from the University of Heidelberg offering remuneration for dismissal in 1932 on account of political reasons during the pre-Nazi years, 1953; documentation from the legal suit filed with Landels and Weigel against UC Berkeley for unfounded accusations of Communist ties against faculty, 1954-1956.
